Avalanche Activity

GC for 15/4 Moist snowpack stable in most locations. Most snow on N to E aspects above 800m. Cornices unstable. Av haz Low.

Forecast Snow Stability: Mild conditions overnight and tomorrow will maintain a soft and moist snowpack. The snowpack stability will remain generally good in most locations. Localised, surface instabilities may exist in steep summit gully exits and around steep corrie rims but these areas are not expected to be extensive and should in the main be avoidable. Remaining cornices will be prone to collapse. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: The freezing level will be well above the summits through the period. Remaining mild but dry with fresh South-South-Easterly winds. Observed Weather Influences: Today was mild and overcast, cloud base was around 850 metres with light rain at all levels. Summit temperatures were plus five degrees Celsius. Winds were light from a Southerly direction.

ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack continues to slowly thaw and diminish at all elevations but it remains generally stable at all elevations. Some localised surface instabilities on steeper slopes and around the tops of summit gullies. Any remaining cornices are fragile and prone to collapse. The avalanche hazard is Low.
