Lo esencial

At upper and mid elevations the avalanche hazard is expected to rise from Low hazard this morning to Moderate hazard this afternoon as snow is expected to continue to fall in the area. This new snow is falling on very hard, slick crusts and surface hoar on most aspects and faceted snow and surface hoar on shaded aspects. Strong westerly winds are to continue to accompany this new snow forming pockets of slab to a foot in depth on wind loaded slopes. These soft slabs could be triggered by backcountry users this afternoon, particularly where they lie upon these hard crusts. The avalanche hazard remains Low at low elevations where less snow is accumulating however isolated pockets of slab are expected on steep slopes as the day progresses.
