Avalanche Activity

The new snow of the last three days is lying on top of a weakly bonded old snowpack in particular on steep shady slopes above approximately 1900 m. The wind slabs are covered with new snow and therefore difficult to recognise.

During the night the avalanche activity will increase. During the night danger level 3 (considerable) will be reached in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation.

Snowpack Structure

Weak layers exist in the old snowpack. In particular transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack where weaknesses exist in the old snowpack are especially dangerous. Backcountry touring calls for experience in the assessment of avalanche danger.
