Lo esencial

One more day of fairly benign weather on Monday should maintain generally safe avalanche conditions. Even though avalanches should be unlikely, look for signs of instability in the upper snowpack and be prepared to dial back your terrain choices based on what you find.

Avalanche Discussion

There wasn’t much new precipitation at Snoqualmie Pass on Sunday, and therefore, not a lot has changed with the snowpack going into Monday. The snowpack around Snoqualmie Pass will continue to be generally strong and you should find minimal avalanche danger. Remember that low danger doesn’t mean no danger, so remain mindful of the snow surface you're traveling on. If it’s firm, you may find minimal danger. If you find that it’s soft, the danger could be heightened. Some cool east winds should only help to harden most snow surfaces, but pay attention as the weather unfolds throughout the day and notice any corresponding change in the snow. Any avalanche activity should occur within recent snow or at the 11/30 interface, which can be found about 4-5” below the old snow surface. We had very strong winds last week in the zone and although unlikely at this point, there could be some pockets of wind drifted snow sitting atop this 11/30 interface that you could trigger.

Lower elevations still contain early season conditions with numerous small trees, logs, and open creeks that could ruin your day. Give yourself some extra time to navigate these obstacles.

During the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, continue to follow the latest guidance from local, state, and federal health officials. Avoid unnecessary risks that could impact first responders and stress medical resources.  Wear a mask when appropriate, practice social distancing, and consider recreating closer to home.
