Avalanche Activity

NC for 8.3: Weakness - all aspects. Avalanches likely E to S above 800m, localised below and on NE and SW aspects Considerable Haz.

Forecast Snow Stability: Snowpack weaknesses will remain at depth on all aspects. The greatest instability will mainly affect steep East to South aspects above 800 metres where avalanches are likely. Instabilities will be more localised on North-East and South-West aspects, also below 800 metres on steep banks and gullies. Elsewhere unstable windslab will be present, mostly around steep, convex terrain, such as coire rims and gully exits. Cornices will be fragile. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Snow showers will clear during the night, a dry and sunny day will follow. Fresh North-Westerly winds will ease and become moderate to light North-Easterly during the day. It will be cold, freezing at all levels. Observed Weather Influences: Snow showers cleared to leave a mostly dry day with light to moderate North-Westerly winds. Very cold with midday summit temperatures of around minus 10 Celsius. ObservedSnowStability: A blanket of soft unconsolidated snow lies on all aspects and altitudes. Beneath is a snowpack weakness at depth, this is widespread and affects all aspects. The greatest instability is where windslab has gained depth on steep, convex East to South aspects above 800m. North-East and South-West aspects are affected by cross loading. On these aspects below 800m, localised instabilities are present on steep banks and gullies. Cornices are fragile. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
