Lo esencial

Avalanches remain unlikely. Approach steep slopes with caution and expect variable surfaces. A slip or fall in extreme terrain will have elevated consequences.

Avalanche Discussion

Since January 9th, our snowpack has settled, melted, decomposed, blown away, and become a concoction of varying textures. Expect a mixed bag of surface conditions as you travel. With intermittent cloud cover, solar aspects may be slow to soften, and many of our surfaces are crusty and slick. To make you less vulnerable to a slip or fall, consider bringing ski crampons, boot crampons, and an ice ax.

Small, isolated instabilities in steep terrain may still be found. Give caution to extreme terrain where the consequences of a small avalanche or a fall will be elevated.

Rocks, trees, and creeks have also begun to resurface. Shallowly buried obstacles are hazards worth considering before you step into complex terrain.

Today, conditions remain generally stable from an avalanche perspective. Bring your humility, tools, and maybe a dash of optimism; it's still a great time to explore the range of light.
