Lo esencial

Strong winds for several days, primarily from the Norhtwest, have formed dense surface slabs to four feet in depth at upper elevations. These slabs lie upon a snow pack that has deep instabilities at mid and upper elevations. Both new and old slabs could be triggered today even after slopes have been skied or crossed several times when a "trigger point" is hit. These slabs will become more sensitive today as warming occurs, particularly on sunlit slopes. Avalanches at low elevations are unlikely today. On Wednesday or Thursday a large slab avalanche 6-9 feet in depth released naturally on Buck Mtn. in GTNP.
