Above-freezing temperatures mean you might trigger small avalanches in wet, cohesionless snow. Avoid steep slopes where you see rollerballs or if you're sinking up to your ankles in wet snow. Small avalanches can be deadly if they push you into a terrain trap.

You can trigger avalanches on steep slopes with wind-drifted snow at upper elevations. Look for rounded pillows and feel for stiff, hollow layers. You are most likely to find drifted snow near ridgelines or along gullies at upper elevations. Go around suspect of drifts of snow where you find them.
