Forecast Snow Stability: Severe thaw conditions will destabilise recent deposits. Areas most affected will include steeper, wind sheltered locations on South-East, South, North-West and North aspects above 800 metres. Deepest accumulations will be encountered on the mountains situated along the Northern boundary of the forecast area. The small wind features present will be prone to collapse. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Evening snowfall will rapidly turn to rain as the freezing level rises to around 2250 metres overnight. Rain and significant thaw conditions will continue throughout the day. Moderate South-East veering Southerly winds. Observed Weather Influences: An overcast day with snowfall arriving by mid-afternoon. Strong South-South-Easterly winds. Minus three degrees Centigrade at 850 metres at midday. ObservedSnowStability: Moderately bonded snow is present in wind sheltered locations on all aspects above 800 metres. Deepest accumulations are present on South-East and South aspects, especially along the Northern boundary of the forecast area. Redistribution of deposits was forming unstable windslab on North-West and North aspects. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
