Avalanche Activity

The large quantity of fresh snow and the sometimes large wind slabs represent the main danger.

A very large quantity of fresh snow as well as the often deep wind slabs can be released easily or naturally. New snow and wind slabs can over a wide area be released by a single winter sport participant and reach dangerously large size. As a consequence of solar radiation numerous avalanches are possible from the early morning. Additionally avalanches can also penetrate deep layers and reach very large size. Ski touring and other off-piste activities, including snowshoe hiking, call for great caution and restraint.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area 50 to 70 cm of snow, and up to 90 cm in some localities, has fallen. As a consequence of snowfall and the strong wind, fresh snow drift accumulations formed. The new snow and wind slabs are poorly bonded with the old snowpack. Individual weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular on shady slopes.

Tendency

The weather conditions will give rise to slight settling of the snowpack.
