We are still seeing the Solstice Rain Crust and associated facets in our snow pits and this layer still lingers close enough to the surface to be affected by the weight of a recreationalist resulting in a potentially dangerous avalanche.Facets reside below the SRC all the way to the ground. These basal facets are rounding and this layer is gaining strength but know that it is present and potentially problematic.Maintain conservative terrain choices even when instability appears unreactive. Check out Victor McNeil's recent post in the "observations " section of this website for a more detailed discussion.
