Avalanche Activity

The large quantity of fresh snow as well as the often large wind slabs will become increasingly prone to triggering. As the snowfall becomes more intense numerous moist and wet avalanches are to be expected at any time, but they can be dangerously large.

A lot of new snow above approximately 2200 m. This applies especially until the early morning. Avalanches can be released very easily and reach dangerously large size. Exposed buildings and exposed parts of transportation routes are endangered over a wide area in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation. In the regions exposed to heavier precipitation moist avalanches can penetrate even deep layers and can reach as far as low altitudes. The conditions are treacherous for backcountry touring.

Snowpack Structure

The sleet will give rise to a loss of strength within the snowpack over a wide area in particular in all altitude zones. As a consequence of new snow and a moderate to strong wind, large wind slabs formed in particular in gullies and bowls and behind abrupt changes in the terrain as well as at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions. Over a wide area 70 to 100 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall until late morning above approximately 2300 m.

Tendency

The peak danger point will be reached during the night.
