Douglas Island

Spring conditions will continue today for the mountains of Douglas. Wet Loose hazard will increase throughout the day as temperatures rise.  Wet Loose problems will most likely be found on South and West facing slopes that recieve long sun exposure over the course of the day. Cornices will also be strained by warm temperatures and prolonged sun exposure. Riders should approach sun drenched South and West facing terrain with caution as temps warm today and surface snow becomes less consolidated. Riders should also avoid spending time underneath or on top of cornices.

Conditions will start out similar to yesterday on Douglas with melt freeze surface snow conditions persisting for the majority of the forecast zone.  Expect Wet Loose hazard to increase over the course of the day on S-W facing terrain and on specific sun exposed features. Cornices are also decreasing in stablilty and have potential for failure due to warm temps and solar influence.  Both Wet Loose avalanches and Cornice failures have potential to entrain large amounts of snow and even step down into deeper layers of the snow pack. Riders should be cautious as warming and solar radiation impact the snowpack throughout the day.
