Avalanche Summary

You can trigger a dangerous avalanche in cold, dry snow on the northern half of the compass. The most dangerous slopes are where the slab is 1 to 2 feet thick, and you are closer to the weak layer. In deeper areas, you might be able to travel on a slope many times before finding a trigger point and bring the whole slope down on you. Remember, tracks on a slope don't mean it's safe. There is still a chance you can trigger these from a distance, so be aware of steep slopes above you.

Safer travel options exist on sunny, south-facing slopes. However, plan to start and end your day early and bail out of steeper terrain if you see rollerballs or start sinking deeply into wet snow.
