Avalanche Summary

Generally safe avalanche conditions exist, but you might be able to trigger a dangerous avalanche in certain areas. If you come across a wind-loaded slope with a smooth, wave-like appearance on the snow surface, typically above 12,000 feet, consider traveling around it. If you find weak, cohesionless snow in continuously steep terrain, avoid slopes with terrain traps such as a cliff or a creek below you.
