Avalanche Activity

Wind slabs represent the main danger.

The wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on very steep shady slopes and adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas above approximately 2200 m. As a consequence of the new snow moist loose snow avalanches are possible, but they will be mostly small. This applies on very steep sunny slopes, and in steep rocky terrain. In many places there is a danger of falling on the icy crust. The Avalanche Warning Service currently has only a small amount of information that has been collected in the field, so that the avalanche danger should be investigated especially thoroughly in the relevant locality.

Snowpack Structure

5 to 25 cm of snow has fallen since Thursday above approximately 1000 m. The moderate wind has transported some snow. In particular adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as above approximately 2200 m mostly small wind slabs formed. The old snowpack is faceted and weak. The new snow is bonding only slowly with the old snowpack in particular on very steep shady slopes at elevated altitudes. In all regions from a snow sport perspective, in most cases insufficient snow is lying.

Tendency

Wind slabs require caution.
