Lo esencial

Dangerous instabilities persist deep in the snowpack above an elevation of 7,500 feet. Yesterday skiers are believed to have remotely triggered a deep hard slab on a very steep southeast facing chute at an elevation of about 10,000 feet near Peak 10,696 in Grand Teton National Park. Pictures of this avalanche can be viewed at http://www.tetonat.com/. Today's sunshine and warm temperatures will increase the potential for humans to trigger dangerous deep hard slabs up to six feet in depth and dense surface slabs up to 18 inches in depth in steep avalanche prone terrain. Very steep upper elevation sunlit aspects are suspect however these killer deep slabs could be triggered on a wide variety of aspects. Today's warming also presents the potential for wet slides to occur on steep sunlit slopes, banks and roadcuts. Conservative decisions regarding terrain selection are advised.
