Lo esencial

The general avalanche hazard is Moderate. Eight to twelve inches on new snow in the last 48 hours has been distributed by southerly winds creating new soft slabs up to a foot deep. These slabs, along with loose snow sluffs, lie upon slick sliding surfaces and could be triggered by backcountry travelers in steep, wind loaded avalanche terrain. Any extended periods of sunshine will quickly increase the likelihood of these slides on sunlit aspects.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Light, scattered showers are expected to taper on Wednesday. Mountain locations could see an additional two to four inches of new snow by Wednesday evening. Mountain temperatures will remain in the upper 20s tonight and tomorrow. Ridgetop winds will be variable at 5 to 15 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be Moderate in the Tetons above 9,000 feet. There, backcountry travelers could trigger pockets of soft slab six to twelve inches in depth in steep, wind loaded avalanche terrain near ridgelines. Elsewhere, the snowpack is mostly stable, and the general avalanche hazard is Low.
