Avalanche Summary

Weak overnight freezes and warm days will result in wet avalanche activity. Most avalanches will be small, but some could grow large enough to bury you in a terrain trap. Others could gouge into deeper snowpack layers, especially below about 12,000 feet. On west and northerly-facing aspects at higher elevations, there may still be dry snow in the middle of the snowpack. Avalanches can break wider and deeper in these spots.

Get into the mountains early and get back out before surface conditions deteriorate. If you see small wet avalanches running from steep rocky terrain, feel the snow surface getting wet and sticky, or in the worst case, find yourself sinking deeper than your boot tops into wet unconsolidated snow, it's time to find lower-angle terrain or to call it a day.
