Snowfall and west to northwesterly winds have created easily triggered soft slabs at mid and upper elevations. Sunshine will increase the sensitivity of slabs and develop the possibility of of wet-loose slides.

    Northwest and westerly winds with new and older snow have created easily triggered soft slabs to 14 inches in depth on steep, lee slopes. The slabs rest on wind pack and slick sun crusts. Sunshine will make these slides more sensitive to triggers.

    Sunshine will rapidly warm new surface snow creating the possibility of natural and human triggered loose-wet slides on steep slopes.

Avalanche Discussion

Skies will become overcast overnight ahead of a strong system that will bring snowfall by late morning Wednesday. The snowfall will increase in intensity dropping two to three inches of accumulation by early evening. Morning mountain temperatures will be in the mid teens then warm with the incoming storm to the mid 20s. Winds will be southwesterly at 20 miles per hour with stronger gusts. Precipitation may start as a rain-snow mix at low elevations.The General Avalanche Hazard is expected to be LOW. New snowfall has adhered well to older, hard surfaces. Isolated pockets of slab to 8 inches in depth may be human triggered in very steep, upper elevation areas such as couloirs or below cornices.
