The General Avalanche Hazard at the Upper elevations is MODERATE where snow and wind over the past week have formed slabs up to eighteen inches in depth. Isolated pockets of these slabs could be triggered by backcountry travelers today in steep terrain near the higher ridgecrests where the newer snow is underlain by a hard crust. Avalanches are not likely at Mid and Low elevations where snow depths are shallow.

Increasing cloudy skies are forecasted for Sunday night along with rising wind speeds out of the Southwest reaching 30 mph by morning. Mountain and valley lows are expected to be near 20 before rising into the mid 30s up high and near 40 down low.The General Avalanche Hazard at the High elevation is expected to remain MODERATE on Monday. Isolated pockets of slab to six to eighteen inches in depth could be triggered in steep terrain underlain by the early November crust. In areas without this crust, avalanches are unlikely as the newer snow lies directly on the ground.
