Snowpack Structure

The high temperatures from the late morning will give rise to increasing moistening of the snowpack in particular at low and intermediate altitudes. The surface of the snowpack has frozen to form a strong crust and will soften during the day. Wind slabs are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls and generally in the high Alpine regions.

Avalanche Activity

The danger of moist and wet avalanches will increase during the day, reaching danger level 2 (moderate).

The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust and will soften quickly. As a consequence of warming during the day individual small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized moist and wet avalanches are possible above approximately 2000 m. In gullies and bowls and behind abrupt changes in the terrain as well as in high Alpine regions mostly small wind slabs formed. They can be released, especially by large additional loads,. Backcountry tours, off-piste skiing and ascents to alpine cabins should be started early and concluded timely.
