Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Unstable windslab will become deeper and more widespread over the forecast period. South-West through West to North aspects above 950 metres most affected, with more localised deposits at lower elevations. Fragile cornices will develop above these aspects. Wind exposed slopes will be scoured and stable. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Heavy snow above 550 metres during the night turning to rain below 850 metres by the end of the day. Storm force mainly Easterly winds overnight will become lighter during the day. Observed Weather Influences: Rain at all levels initially gradually turned to snow above around 650 metres as the freezing level lowered. Gale force East-South-Easterly winds. ObservedSnowStability: The existing snowpack is well bonded and stable. Localised deposits of fresh unstable windslab are developing in wind sheltered areas such as gully tops and coire rims. South-West through West to North aspects above 950 metres are most affected. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
