New snow and wind slabs: In these regions the avalanche danger is considerable (level 3).

Up to 40 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen since Saturday. The new snow is bonding only slowly with the old snowpack. The moderate wind has transported the new snow. The old snowpack is well consolidated and its surface consists of loosely bonded snow lying on a melt-freeze crust that is strong in many cases. Intermediate and high altitudes: Individual weak layers exist in the old snowpack especially on shady slopes.

The avalanche danger will not decrease for the time being.

Over a wide area new snow is lying on a hard crust. The new snow is poorly bonded. The covering of new snow is unstable. The avalanches can over a wide area be released, even by a single winter sport participant and reach large size in isolated cases. Ski touring and other off-piste activities, including snowshoe hiking, call for experience in the assessment of avalanche danger and careful route selection.
