Avalanche Activity

Wind slabs are to be evaluated critically.

A generally clear night. The fresh wind slabs represent the main danger. These can be released by a single winter sport participant in some cases in particular on extremely steep south, southeast and east facing slopes above approximately 2600 m. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack. As the temperature drops only isolated mostly small dry and moist avalanches are possible below approximately 2700 m.

Snowpack Structure

The Avalanche Warning Service currently has only a small amount of information that has been collected in the field. Above approximately 2400 m snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Even in moderately steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the icy crust. At low and intermediate altitudes only a little snow is lying. Along the border with Switzerland, in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation especially below approximately 2800 m. Many starting zones have released the snow. The old snowpack will be generally well bonded.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will persist.
