Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Unstable windslab will be present above 800 metres on mainly North through East to South aspects. Areas most affected will be steep wind sheltered locations such as coire rims, ridge flanks and gully tops. Fragile cornices will also be found on these same aspects. The old snowpack will remain firm and stable throughout especially where exposed to the wind. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Fresh snow fall is expected throughout the forecast period, gradually clearing by late afternoon. Gale force winds, initially from the West will veer West-North-West and ease slightly. The freezing level will be around 600 metres rising to 900 metres through the day. Observed Weather Influences: Fresh snow fall during the day accompanied with storm force Westerly winds. The freezing level was around 700 meters. ObservedSnowStability: Areas of unstable windslab are present on mainly North through East to South-East aspects above 800 metres. Wind sheltered locations such as ridge flanks, coire rims and gully tops most affected. Fragile cornices are present on the same aspects. Elsewhere the old snowpack remains firm and stable. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
