Lo esencial

At the mid and high elevations skiers and riders have the potential to trigger sensitive surface slabs in steep wind loaded terrain, particularly near cliffs and in rocky areas. These dense slabs will be most sensitive and larger at the high elevations where they may have depths of up to three feet. Avalanches are unlikely at low elevations today. Yesterday skiers triggered an eighteen inch pocket on a northeast aspect in the Rock Springs drainage and snowmobilers remotely triggered a two foot deep slide on a northerly aspect in terrain to the north of Ski Lake.

Avalanche Discussion

Periods of snow showers are expected to continue before another storm system moves into the area on Friday night. High temperatures are to be in the mid twenties and winds are to be southwesterly with ten to twenty mile per hour averages. The general avalanche hazard is expected to remain Considerable above 9000 feet, Moderate from 7500 to 9000 feet, and Low below 7500 feet. Backcountry travelers will have the potential to easily trigger loose snow sluffs, shallow soft surface slabs, and deeper harder slabs in steep avalanche terrain. At higher elevations these slabs may have total depths to four feet as snowfall continues to load these slopes. Slab depths in the Southwest Trails/Greys River are expected to be lower, to total depths of two feet.
