Lo esencial

At the mid and upper elevations 30 inches of snow with 4 inches of moisture has fallen since Friday morning. Strong west & southwest winds have formed dense new slabs up to 4 feet in depth. These slabs lie upon a buried layer of surface hoar and a weak faceted October snowpack. These dangerous unstable slabs could be human triggered or release naturally on steep wind loaded aspects underlain by these weak layers. At the lower elevations the snowpack is shallow and avalanches are unlikely.
