Lo esencial

Today is another good day for corn skiing and riding. Wet loose avalanches are still possible, but might occur later in the day as small avalanches in isolated areas. If you start noticing sinking deeper into the snowpack, move to shadier slopes that still have a supportable crust.

Our last daily avalanche forecast will be Sunday, April 12. After that, we will post updates on Mondays and Fridays through the end of the month. Thank you all for a great winter season! We really appreciate the support, shared enthusiasm and all the observations we have received throughout this winter.

Avalanche Discussion

After several melt-freeze cycles this week, the snowpack has stabilized, providing great corn skiing and riding conditions. The snow surface refroze overnight, forming a supportable crust that will soften with sunshine and warming.

As temperatures rise throughout the day wet loose avalanches are possible. They should occur as small avalanches in isolated areas such as beneath rocks and cliff bands and could still surprise you if they come down from above.

As long as you can feel a supportable crust beneath a few inches of soft surface snow, enjoy spring skiing and riding. If you begin sinking deeper than your ankles into the snow, move to more northerly-facing, shaded slopes that still have a supportable crust. Even slight changes in aspect and slope angle can make a difference.

The avalanche danger is LOW across the entire forecast area.
