The snowpack at the higher elevations is shallow and mostly stable. Avalanches are unlikely. The shallow snow depths present the potential for backcountry travelers to hit obstacles. Caution is advised. Grand Targhee is closed to uphill travel. The resort is making slope preparations.

Avalanche Discussion

Clear skies and light winds are on the menu tonight. Clouds will increase during the day. A few light snow showers are possible by dusk. More significant precipitation is expected after midnight. Temperatures will drop to near zero overnight. Daytime highs will rise to near 30 in the mountains and to near 40 in the valleys.The snowpack is mostly stable. Avalanches are unlikely. The general avalanche hazard will be low up high. There is no avalanche hazard below an elevation of 8,500 feet. Uphill travel at Grand Targhee Resort will be closed while the resort is conducting slope opening preparation tasks.
