Entered Tuckerman’s Ravine this morning before things warmed up. The ridgeline was in and out of the clouds and wind was transporting a small amount of snow throughout the ravine. Heading up towards Right Gully it was hard to find undisturbed snow from recent skiers, but small pockets showed variable drifts of a general upside down P-1F windboard on top of the recent melt-freeze crust. On this aspect up to the buttress near the exit, the crust was about 4-5cm and mostly boot supportable. The primary surface was refrozen snow after yesterday's sun and warmth. On the other side of the bowl, Left Gully was very scoured in the middle with some drifts on either side. Snow blowing across the ravine and into the gully was clearly sliding across the icy surface and accumulating in more sheltered areas near rocks and trees. About 15cm of softer snow than under Right gully was found under the buttress separating it from Chute and was sitting on top of a thinner crust (~3cm). Hillman’s was holding slightly denser snow than yesterday, with the deepest areas under and along the rock at the fork. The surface snow higher up was noticeably denser and hand shears along the way showed it to be more cohesive than down low, but also stubborn. Some planar shears were observed in isolated pockets, but with more force. No cracking was observed in any of these areas.
