Quick report

Cracking
isolated

Afternoon and evening ski tour of Rose and Church, including down drainage west of Chocolate to 8250’. Fairly overcast skies most of the day and also SW-windy when on the ridge with enough continuing/snow transport down the NE-facing bowl to somewhat fill in my tracks (in certain spots) within a couple minutes. While I noticed localized cracking/soft slab development (and also some quickly stopping loose, dry sluff lower down), it was very rare, thin and not of much concern. There was enough new snow to soften the turns in some places, while in others it was easy to feel the crust or sastrugi underneath. But in combination with sheltered northerly terrain/snow quality in the drainage, overall 2500’ line was very worthwhile without much of anything in the way of instabilities or concerning indicators.
