Red Lake Peak

We toured the south gully of Red Lake Peak this morning, observing south through east aspects. South aspects were completely bare to the ground. East aspects held a good amount of snow, with mid-ridge cornices remaining from previous wind events. Temperatures were warm, but snowpack changes were gradual. Cornices did not appear to be naturally shedding due to the heat, and no loose wet activity was observed. On east aspects, we observed  cold snow; Wind packed and variable near the ridges and peaks and 4–5 cm of near-surface facets mid slope. Southeast aspects were transitioning to near-corn conditions. No breakable crust was found throughout the tour.
