Quick report

Cracking
isolated

Travelling through the cat area, we observed significant wind loading at all elevations above 7000 and on multiple aspects. As we moved higher in the mountains the winds became more consistent and the loading was primarily on the S to SE aspects. Cracking was present in wind loaded areas. S and SE aspect were solar affected and had a breakable crust up to 8400 Ft. We dug pits at 9200 ft on a SE aspect finding preserved surface hoar underneath 15CM of wind loaded snow. Finding preserved surface hoar under the wind slab was a surprise and a layer we will monitor and track as the next storm system approached on Monday. In the pit this layer showed signs of instability and propagation. We dug a second pit at 8400ft on a N aspect. No significant results were observed in the snow pit. Results and structure are available below in the Snowpilot pictures.
