Snowpack

Facets near the ground are deep around 9,000', facets are small and moist. No crust (or possibly a very decomposed crust) noted between the layers of facets near the ground. Minimal avalanche activity indicates that less snow fell before the November drought rendering a more discontinuous layer across the terrain to support widespread propagation and a poor sliding surface for natural activity. One rider noted a collapse two days prior but signs point to good stability at this time. The exception is the many 35-45 degree slopes which may harbor the weak facet layer closer to the surface and a potential trigger.

The NSFs, ice layer and surface hoar will be worth watching when the next precip arrives.
