Lots of shooting cracks underfoot. Experienced one loud whumph just below a ridge at 6300' on an east facing slope. In combination with the rumbling whumph, the snowpack collapsed about an inch. One old crown line could be seen where the collapse was experienced, but it was very filled in and couldn't be safely accessed.

Overcast, with light snowfall in and out all day. Temperatures were cold and averaged 10-13 degrees Fahrenheit. Light wind out of the west.
Snowpack
Observed a currently weak and poor snowpack structure. At 6300' on an east facing slope surface hoar that was 4-8mm in size was found buried 20 inches down. The surface hoar was sitting on top of a foot of F-4F hard sugary facets. The observed slab sitting on top of the surface hoar was very light and low density, but areas where this slab is heavier and larger are very concerning. These weak layers are teetering on the edge and the added weight of a skier or snowmobiler could easily initiate a large avalanche. With the sensitivity of these weak layers, avalanches could be triggered from a distance.
