Quick report
Dug pit @ 6,400' SW slope, sunny & calm. Total snow pack 50". Pit depth 34' CT 3 @ 11" (which caught my attention as I'd already skied a run with no signs of instability) CT 12 @8" (was part of the 11" block that didn't separate initially) CT14 @ 22" (Lots of snow and ice to come down on you) NOTE: didn't trust the 3-tap so did another CT nearby... CT 11@ 11" CT 15 @ 22" The remaining isolated lower block was bonded faceted crystals. Other interesting notes: I was in this area on Saturday and the slope, especially the upper few hundred feet were covered with a fairly large graupel layer. While touring I noticed it was still there, but happened to be buried by an inch of newer snow from an isolated cloud after the major storm. I've seen buried graupel cause problems in the past, so another thing to track in the Selkirks. I skied a sheltered WSW aspect and a NNW aspect. Deeper, less consolidated and less bonded snow on the NNW aspect. Small, steeper test slopes all shed the top foot of snow with each turn. So many layers and consequences of a bad decision...
