Friday was sunny and clear. There was a Moderate wind from the northeast. With breakable crust on any sunny slopes, there was only Light amounts of blowing snow off of northeast slopes.
Snowpack
Slopes that see the sun had a breakable crust. Shady slopes had preserved powder (what we call decomposed fragments; snowflakes partially broken by wind or warm temperatures). I dug a profile on a north slope at 7700 ft. and couldn't find any weak layers that would be associated with avalanche activity. On a few north slopes below treeline I did observe 3mm surface hoar, but this won't present a problem unless it becomes buried which isn't too likely in the near future.
I saw a few roller balls on steep east slopes from the warm sunny weather on Thursday. I left the terrain before things started melting today, but I would anticipate lots of melting in the coming days with increasing temperatures and sunny skies.
While I didn't see evidence of any avalanche problems this morning, I would think Wet Loose avalanches will be possible on steep sunny slopes in the afternoons.
