Snowpack

A new batch of surface hoar grew overnight, with crystals up to 3mm in size up to 10,500 feet. This is sitting on new snow from the last week (5-10cm). Below this are facets and surface hoar. The layer of greatest concern is the top 20-30 cm of the snowpack, which as grown week over an extended drought period from Jan 10th to today. While not a current concern, this snow will become problematic when a new slab forms above it.

Both dry and wet loose avalanches are possible, but will be small in volume. Very steep shetered terrain with a sustained pitch will be the most likely type of terrain to encouter these problems.
