Quick report

While it was a beautiful spring time day, the snowpack is not confidence inspiring. The upper snowpack is wet, punchy, and weak. However, the avalanche cycle from this extended spring-thaw is rather small and unimpressive. The potential for larger wet slides kept us out of most terrain.

Numerous wet loose avalanches were noted from this extended spring cycle. Most were small (D1) slides. We noted 6 D2+ wet loose slides on various aspects. Several small cornice falls and glide avalanches were also noted.

Beautiful springtime day in the mountains. Warm temperatures and a gentle breeze made for a great time outside.

Snowpack

A nearly non-existent overnight freeze left the snow surface wet and punchy right out of the gate this morning. We heavy snow was noted on every aspect. Our boots easily sank a foot or more deep into the wet snow.
