-Went for a ski tour + snowpack assessment of the Punta B, Tele Bowl zone. This was our first time out there this season, given its been such low tide. That being said it was a battle to get out to the terrain even with new snow. This larger event will help this zone become more usable and safer for riding conditions (obstacles...) - Highlight of the day was snow quality and riding conditions in tele bowls, 30cm of blower pow on top of a supportable crust made for great turns, minus the rocks and down trees we hit and avoided. - As we approached the lookers right tele bowl from the ridge approach to the west, we turned the corner on a north facing slope and experienced a large collapse and several 2-4 meter shooting cracks. This is what we were looking for, gave us a good site location for our first snow profile for the day. - Site location 1: North aspect / 8600ft / HS 65cm / CTE (SC) x2 down 50cm (basal facets) / ECTP10 down 50cm (basal facets) - Site location 2: (lookers left tele bowl) NE aspect / 8300ft / HS 55 / CTM (SC) x2 on rounding facets just below new/old interface 35cm down - Big takeaway: Direct feedback and signs of instability were generally only observed in open terrain in this area, in the trees not so much. Larger crust layers and more consolidated old faceted layers reduced reactivity in the areas with dense vegetation. Also there was a significant difference in the crust (new/old interface from 2/1) in site location 1 and 2. Site 1 had a very small MF crust thus easier to "trigger" where as site location 2 had a pretty mean MF crust that made it harder to initiate the PWLs.
