Quick report
I toured into GoS via the Graham Trail and ascended Main Gully. I observed between 2-6 cm of new low-density snow sitting on a firm and supportive crust from the recent rain/warm weather and high winds. The new snow was unconsolidated in most areas and my observations generally support the current forecast that calls for a variety of different snowpack layers. I found most surfaces to be firm under the new snow, which made for easy travel. At approximately 4385' in Main Gully, I performed multiple hand shear tests on a Southeast aspect that failed approximately 6-8 cm down on a layer of faceted grains. These results are extremely isolated to windblown snow consolidated on the SE aspect below the ice bulge in Main Gully but could become problematic if winds increase after tomorrow.
