• One recent slab avalanche crown on the north face of Mt. Furlong (Broken Bridge) at about 7200’. Visible crown length estimated at 200’ long and 10-20” thick. Could not determine the runout. • No other avalanches observed. • Snowfall totals from the Jan 6th/7th storm ranged from 8-10” on the Canyon floor and 10-20” above 6000’. • Previous wind loading was heavy with large (2-4+ feet thick) drifts/ dunes above 6000’. These were unreactive to ski cutting. • Moderate to strong westerly winds picked up in the afternoon and began forming a fresh crop of wind slabs above 6000’. These were 4-8” thick by late afternoon and reactive to ski cuts (photo). • Dug one snow pit in the uppermost reaches of Path 1163 at 7300’ on an easterly aspect. Snow depth was 45” and consisted of mostly right side up layering. Note the layer of rounding facets sandwiched between crusts. No propagation on this layer. Further details in the pit profile. Small shallow wind slabs forming in the PM and reactive to ski cuts.

• Overcast or broken skies with occasional light snow and/or graupel showers and 1” accumulation during the day. • Moderate to strong westerly winds above 5000’ with light to moderate westerlies on the Canyon floor. • Daytime high air temperatures reached the mid-teens °F above 6000’ and the high-20s °F on the Canyon floor.
