A fun day out in the warmth and the sun exploring the mountains. We knew going into the day that avalanche conditions were likely to be considerable and stuck to low angle terrain for most of the day. Pretty terrible snow conditions overall but good to be out anyway. On the decent, I decided to lay a few hard turns into a low consequence pocket of steeper windslab and triggered a small slide. As others have mentioned, any new snow that falls on our current snowpack will hide these touchy slabs and the thinner snowpack in areas will make hitting rocks a constant issue this spring. Highly wind affected snow with isolated pockets of harder and reactive windslabs. Multiple (3) older small south facing releases noted.

Clear and warm day, no breeze.
Snowpack
Not unexpectedly, our snowpack is variable and wind hammered. Rock solid sastrugi, bullet hard windslab pockets, interspersed with crusty snow, and pockets of bottomless facets. Snow depth ranging from drifted many meters deep to scoured clean.
