Snow collapsed several inches with whomping and shooting cracks midway up the peak 2 gully. Our group of five moved to a region of safety left of the gully and experienced further whomping. Hand pit showed 2 inches of duff on top of a few inches of wind board on top of facet layer. Rapid warming occurring on south west facing slope. Did not ascend further up the slope due to instability of snowpack.
