Quick report

Collapsing
isolated

Dug a pit at 2300 ft on a WNW aspect near the top of yesterday’s observed avalanche on Sunnyside. I was looking for a very unstable spot and seemed to find it: had a whumf as I approached pit location. 120cm total depth with 30cm of new snow – there was a subtle density change in the new snow, top is super dry and fluffy and bottom 10cm-ish is slightly more cohesive. ECTP1 on 3cm thick layer of facets a couple cm below new-old interface (and simultaneous resistant fracture within new snow). Mellow pow skied great.
