Quick report
We skied up to Geiger Lakes and then skied some N-facing terrain above the lake. We had some visibility before the storm rolled in and could not see any recent signs of avalanches. We dug a pit around 5000' and found a very deep snowpack, HS of 275cm. We got an ECT-N with moderate force on a zipper curst at 20cm and then on a storm interface at 30cm, failing on small rounding facets 0.3mm and some decomposing particles. The melt-freeze crusts were 130cm and 160cm from the snowpack's surface, and the associated facets were rounding. The wind and snow picked up around 1:00 pm, snowing S-2 to S-3, and a lot of effective loading was happening. The observed danger was L-1 at BTL, L-2 NTL, and L-2.5 above the treeline, all driven by the wind slab problem.
