Lower Point area

The IMSARU Technical Rescue Team was training on winter anchors up near Lower Point and quickly investigated the snowpack to build stronger snow anchors. Signs of instability: small whumpf from team member setting up equipment on snow surface about 10 ft away from snow pit location while we were digging the snow pit, after multiple people had already walked in the area. Weather: Cooled throughout the day with increasing precipitation Appx. 110 cm total depth at 6,000 ft on a NW-facing aspect; CT11 , fracturing appx. 50 cm from ground on boundary between 4F and 1F and appx. 40 cm from ground on boundary with weak, sugary, faceted layer 105-110 cm breakable crust on surface 75-105 cm F 67-75 cm 4F 50-67 cm 1F 45-50 cm 4F 40-45 cm 1F 0-40 cm weak, sugary, faceted snow
