Quick report

Red Flags
Wind Loading, Cracking

Video below of rapid wind loading today on Cutler Ridge. Winds seemed to be out of the SW and were loading N and NE slopes above about 7500'.

Video shows erosion and transport just above slopes that were being loaded.

We found small localized sensitive shallow wind slabs on our decent between 8800 and 7500'. Lower elevations were much less wind affected.

We avoided the steepest and most wind loaded slopes. I'm pretty sure we could have found some decent sized sensitive wind slabs today.

All steep solar aspects were crusted - likely at all elevations (we observed up to 8500'). Subtle changes in aspect were the difference between curb-and-rail crusts and dry dense snow. Surface is mostly wind affected above 7800' out of sheltered areas.

There were a handful of wet loose slides around Willard on solar aspects most likely from Fri 2/21.
