We observed isolated wind slab cracking on very small cornices that we intended to trigger. However the cracks did not run more than a foot or two. We dug a pit around 8,000’ on a NNE aspect. 160cm of total snow with 25cm of new on a melt freeze crust that was breakable in the shade and untracked areas. We performed two CT’s that failed on the facets just below the crust. However the ECT showed propagation unlikely CTM@133cmBRK CTM@133cmSP ECTN@133 The new snow made for some great turns and the crust was breakable in the terrain we chose. Some small loose dry sluffs were observed in steep terrain, otherwise no other instabilities were observed. The week layer doesn’t seem to have enough slab built on top of it yet, however we expect that after this next weeks storm we will see an avalanche cycle on the facets just under the crust.
